An 8th grader from Revere Middle School is heading to the Scripps National Spelling Bee after winning the 97th Akron Beacon Journal Regional Spelling Bee on Sunday at the Akron-Summit County Public Library.
Esther Lin captured first place by correctly spelling the word “nutation.”
Lucas Lebo of Black River Middle School finished second, while Ryan Milford of Wadsworth Middle School placed third.
The regional competition featured 72 students from 35 schools across Summit, Medina, Portage and Wayne counties.
With the win, Lin will now represent the Akron region at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. in May.
