The Wadsworth Police Department is asking for the public’s help in finding those individuals involved in a so-called “swatting” incident in the city late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.
If you don’t know what “swatting” is, it’s a false notification of a crime that requires the response of a SWAT team and/or from a large number of first responders.
In this incident that took place late in the evening of June 3, Wadsworth Police received a call from someone who claimed they had done harm to a person inside a home on Householder Circle and was holding others hostage, supposedly threatening them.
Personnel from the Wadsworth Police Department and the Medina County Sheriff’s Department were immediately dispatched to the scene. They were joined by additional personnel from both Departments, the Wadsworth and Medina County SWAT Units and Wadsworth EMS.
After this large response of law enforcement, authorities determined that the notification they received was false. Wadsworth Police say incidents of this kind are not only dangerous for first responders and victims but force a large draw of resources which in this case turned out to be a waste of time and money.
If you have any information about this incident call the Wadsworth Police Department at (3300 334-1511. Anonymous information can be left on the WPD’s Voice Mail Box at (330) 335-2769.
