A Wadsworth hometown legend is about to celebrate a remarkable milestone, and the community is stepping up to make it unforgettable.

Joe Lenze, longtime owner of Marie’s Restaurant and a World War II veteran, turns 100 on April 21. Lenze served in the U.S. Army Tank Corps under General George S. Patton from 1944 to 1946, traveling across Europe and earning a Battle Star for his service.

For years, Lenze has had one simple birthday wish, to receive a letter from the President. Now, supporters are working to make an even bigger dream come true.

Plans are in place to take Lenze to Washington, D.C. the day after his birthday for a once-in-a-lifetime experience, including visits to the White House and the World War II Memorial, along with lunch at the Army Navy Club.

Organizers say the trip will include full “white-glove” treatment, everything from transportation from his home to private jet travel, ground transportation in D.C., and a return trip home.

Those helping coordinate the effort say nearly everything has come together quickly, and they’re now asking for the community’s help to cover remaining costs.

Anyone who would like to support the effort can donate through the “Operation Epic Birthday” fundraiser HERE.

Organizers say it’s a chance to honor not just a veteran, but a man who has spent decades serving his community, and to give him a 100th birthday he’ll never forget!
