It’s here! The green and yellow metal and stainless steel sculpture from Akron Children’s Hospital is now gracing downtown Wadsworth. Crews installed the sculpture late Monday morning.
The green-headed cone-flower is being displayed as a tribute to the Hospital’s 125th anniversary celebration.
The sculpture is located where High and Main and College and Broad Streets come together in Downtown Wadsworth, near the Time Warner and Liberty Tax storefront. The city of Wadsworth and the downtown Wadsworth organization worked together to find the right spot for the sculpture, where it would be visible and not interfere with traffic.
Sculpture Designed Judith Spater and designer Stephen Canneto were on hand when the sculpture was put in place, along with Wadsworth Councilman Bob Thurber, Jack Ollom of downtown Wadsworth and Wadsworth Mayor Robin Laubaugh.
Spater said the green-headed coneflower is 7-to-8-feet tall and is unique to Downtown Wadsworth. In all, Akron Children’s Hospital has placed 25 such sculptures throughout Medina, Summit and Stark counties.
