Ground to be broken on new Wadsworth Community Dog Park in June – Wadsworth Community Radio

Wadsworth Community Radio

Wadsworth Community Dog ParkGround will soon be broken on the one and only Wadsworth Community Dog Park. Roni Leatherman, who heads the dog park creation, said on Matt & Tina in the Morning Friday that fencing will begin to go up the first week of June.

Leatherman brought her furry friend, Piper, to the studio as her Welsh Corgi was the inspiration behind the dog park coming to Wadsworth.

“I realized I was going everywhere else to a dog park — except Wadsworth,” Leatherman explained. “We need a model dog park, a place where other communities can look as a prime example of what a dog park should be. That’s what we’ll be.”

The Wadsworth Community Dog Park has been in the works since June 2014.

“We thank the community because if people didn’t want the dog park, it wouldn’t have happened. The citizens know what they want and if it wasn’t for them, we wouldn’t have the dog park going in,” Leatherman said. “We thank the city, too, for recognizing the need.”

Wadsworth’s dog park will be located in Valley View Park and feature benches, 3.5 acres of play — 2.5 for large dogs and 1 acre for dogs under 30 pounds. Handicap accessible water fountains and dog fountains will also be installed at the park and in the future, dog pools may also be installed.

“There should not be one person who can’t use the dog park,” Leatherman said.

Currently, the dog park committee is looking for volunteers to help clean the park weekly, keep the dishes clean, park clean and benches wiped down. If you’re interested, you can contact Leatherman via the dog park Facebook page: http://on.fb.me/1Rkvsnd.
