To be honored by the honored is a very humbling experience. Tom and I were stunned Friday when our in-studio guests on the morning show — retired Army Specialist Jason Brasse (Tampa, Fla.) and American Blind Golf co-chair Mark Arnold — said they had a surprise for each of us: a Wounded Warrior Challenge Coin.
The front of the coin reads: The greatest casualty is being forgotten. And the back circles: Duty – Honor – Courage – Commitment – Integrity – Country – Service.
It was a gift that brought both Tom and me to tears and left us both speechless.
“If you go above and beyond and truly show integrity and selflessness, you’re rewarded with the Wounded Warrior Challenge Coin. It only goes to someone who has proven themselves dedicated and strong and above the rest. It’s a true honor to get one,” Brasse explained to us.
Brasse and Arnold said we were “deserving” (although we don’t feel that way) of the honor “for raising awareness and supporting the Wounded Warrior Project and American Blind Golf. What you’re doing is absolutely vital,” Brasse told us.
Wow. We are still humbled, grateful, undeserving, speechless and teary-eyed. These men who have made incredible sacrifices for our freedom and others who have overcome extreme obstacles are our inspiration. You are changing our perspective, changing our lives. You are incredible blessings, incredible men. Thank you for this most high honor. We promise to fulfill the coin’s mission.
