zombiesIf there’s ever a zombie apocalypse, you don’t want to be in Pennsylvania.

In fact, according to a team of researchers from Cornell University, that’s the worst place to be.  How do they know? They made a computer simulation of what might happen if zombies started to take over the country.  The simulation pointed to Montana and Nevada as the two safest states in the nation. Apparently, the key is sparse population – for example, the simulations showed that it took months for any zombies to reach the northern Rocky Mountains.

Note to folks in California – researchers also said people will want to avoid Bakersfield because it would be overrun by zombies from both San Francisco and Los Angeles.  The Cornell simulation uses data from the 2010 U.S. Census and depends on the SIR model, a disease model that is sometimes used to predict the spread of real-life infectious diseases like measles and rubella.

And by the way? In their simulations, most of the U.S. population becomes zombies after just one week. You’re welcome.
