Beginning in June, the Medina County Health Department will have on-going COVID-19 vaccination clinics the first Wednesday of each month at various locations, including Founders Hall on the Summa campus in Wadsworth. The clinics will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“As a way to accommodate those with not-to-flexible work days or maybe other scheduling conflicts, we’ve planned some ongoing clinics for the next few months. These locations will offer both first and second doses (of the COVID-19 vaccine) to help lift the burden of trying to schedule an appointment on short notice,” Krista Wasowski, health commissioner in Medina County said in a news release to the community and media Tuesday.

She also said vaccine supply is “now more readily available,” allowing the health department to schedule dates and times in advance “with certainty.”

Also in the community letter, Wasowski said the Pfizer vaccine has been expanded for emergency use by the FDA on children as young as 12, though there are two more remaining steps before the vaccine can be administered to this age group.

“(Today), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices must vote to approve the FDA’s decision; then, the CDC’s director needs to issue a formal recommendation upon the committee’s approval. Once these actions occur, the Health Department will be able to begin offering the vaccine with parental request,” Wasowski said.

She expects everything to be in place in the coming days with Pfizer doses available by the end of the week.

Wasowski also said the pandemic won’t last forever and “we’ve been moving back toward a place of normalcy.”

“The Health Department is excited to see many treasured summer events and activities resume that were put on hold last year. We have been happy to offer our best recommendations following the state’s mandates on safety to those who have sought our advice,” Wasowski said. “It’s our hope that Medina County citizens take advantage of the tools we have to protect ourselves and others and continue to help us on our path towards an end to the pandemic.”
