Wadsworth residents will see a couple of developments involving the city’s Fire Department in the coming months, including plans to replace two aging ambulances and two levies headed to the November ballot.
As part of the city’s 2026 budget cycle, the Wadsworth Fire Department is looking to replace two ambulances. But instead of purchasing completely new vehicles, the department is considering what’s known as a “remount.”
With a remount, the patient compartment, or box, of the existing ambulance is kept and refurbished, then installed on a new chassis with a new motor and frame.
The approach is expected to save the City of Wadsworth about $50,000 compared with purchasing two completely new ambulances.
There is a temporary trade-off, though. The remount process takes about 90 days to complete. During that time, the Fire Department would operate with three ambulances instead of its usual four.
Separately, Wadsworth voters will have two Fire Department-related issues to consider this fall.
The Medina County Board of Elections has accepted paperwork placing both a fire levy and an EMS levy on the November ballot. With the measures officially headed to voters, officials will now begin mapping out the direction of the campaign.
More information about the levies, including what each would fund and the potential cost to homeowners, is expected as the November election approaches.
