Ohio is launching a new program aimed at making an overwhelming childhood cancer diagnosis a little easier for families to navigate.
Governor Mike DeWine announced the Pediatric Complex Care Navigation Program, which will give families of children diagnosed with cancer a single point of contact to help connect them with the services and resources they may need.
The program, through the Ohio Department of Health, can help families coordinate everything from doctors and medications to Medicaid coverage, travel for clinical trials and connections with nonprofit organizations.
State officials say the goal is to save parents time and help them get answers faster at a point when families are already dealing with enormous stress.
The program is available to Ohio families regardless of income.
Ohio Department of Health Director Dr. Bruce Vanderhoff said care navigation can help families work through the complicated medical, financial and logistical challenges that can come with a childhood cancer diagnosis.
