Walking and TextingMore people are ending up in the emergency department due to injuries caused by walking and using their cellphone.  The types of injuries doctors see locally vary.

“Generally, it tends to be related to a fall of some kind. Broken wrists, abrasions, road rash and occasionally something to the head,” said Dr. Seth Podolsky with the Cleveland Clinic.

Researchers at Ohio State University say the number of people getting hurt while walking and using their cellphone doubled between 2005 and 2010.  And men are more prone to walking and texting accidents than women.

The study shows 16-25 year old distracted pedestrians were most likely to get hurt.

Researchers expect the numbers to keep going up.
