The Wadsworth Grizzlies survived and advance to the Regional semi-final round of the playoffs as they defeated the Wooster Generals 42-38 in a game played at Art Wright Stadium.
It was far from an easy win for the Grizzlies.
At one point in the second quarter, Wooster was ahead of Wadsworth 24-7 following a 42-yard interception return for a touchdown by Jett Morgan of Wooster.
The Grizzlies’ Barret Labus scored two touchdowns in the final 2:46 0f the first half to close the gap to 24-21.
The Grizzlies took the opening Kickoff of the second half and marched right down the field to score on a Dom Loparo run and take the lead 28-24.
Then, Wadsworth and Wooster traded scores and at the end of 3, Wooster had a 38-35 lead. The winning score came with 11 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter on a 6-yard run by Mason McMillen.
It was a defensive stand by the Grizzlies in the last minute of the game at the 6-yard line that sealed the victory. Wadsworth stopped a run, broke up 2 passes in the end zone an sacked Wooster quarterback Dylan Dagley on fourth down with 26 seconds to go to win the game.
Wadsworth will play next Friday night against a yet to be determined opponent at a sight to be announced.
