Drew is part of the rich history that is Wadsworth High School baseball. He was named twice as the Medina County baseball player of the year. He graduated from Wadsworth High School in 2002. Drew played college baseball at Cincinnati and Kent State and was drafted by the Florida Marlins in the 13th round in 2006.

Drew said he’s been thinking a lot recently about his time with the Grizzlies and about Wadsworth because he’s going to be inducted into the Wadsworth High School Sports Hall of Fame this November.

“I didn’t become a Grizzly until my freshman year when my family moved from Barberton to Wadsworth…I was fortunate to have played with so many great players like Andy Sonnanstine, David Waters, Nick Goddard and right on down the list. It was a special time. The Wadsworth baseball program has been a storied program going back to Scott Fletcher and even before that,” said Saylor.

Drew said baseball taught him a few other things about his hometown.

“It’s about the relationships you build. When I think about the Wadsworth community, that’s what it’s all about. It’s a tight-knit community, where people pull for each other and where the community backs you. That’s what I miss.”

Drew’s baseball career has taken him from the Jamestown Jammers to the Tri-City Dust Devils in Pasco, Washington and now to Modesto, California.

“When you get to travel as much as I have in my baseball career, I realize what a wonderful community Wadsworth is and the people that are there. I hope one day to experience that again.”

Drew’s parents still live in Wadsworth behind the high school and his wife’s (Amanda) parents live in Wadsworth.

“Wadsworth will always be a place that’s home to us. I have great love and affection for the area.”

Drew and Amanda make their off-season home in the Medina County area. While professional baseball can take players and coaches anywhere across the country, it’s good to know that Drew Saylor will be known to us as a Wadsworthian.
