Some good news for fans of several longtime Northeast Ohio traditions: the I-X Center isn’t going anywhere just yet.
The Cleveland venue announced this morning (Wednesday) it will continue operating as a home for major consumer shows, trade shows and exhibitions while the property remains on the market for potential long-term redevelopment.
That means several familiar events are expected to return, including the Cleveland Auto Show, Cleveland Boat Show, Great Big Home + Garden Show and Ohio RV Supershow.
Specific dates and ticket information for upcoming events will be announced in the coming weeks.
The decision allows events to continue at the I-X Center while ownership explores the possibility of eventually redeveloping the property for a manufacturing operation that could bring new jobs and investment to Cleveland.
For now, though, the doors remain open.
“The I-X Center has long been a premier destination for consumer shows and industry trade events in this region,” General Manager Lisa Vo said in announcing the decision.
The massive 2.2-million-square-foot facility includes more than 500,000 square feet of exhibition and conference space and typically welcomes about one million visitors each year.
Located next to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, the I-X Center has been a Northeast Ohio fixture since opening in 1985. More than 50 million people have attended events there over the past four decades.
The venue says additional announcements about its upcoming event calendar will be released soon.
