DA GRIZZThe Wadsworth Lady Grizzlies improved their record to 17-1 as they defeated the Twinsburg Tigers 49-40 at Wadsworth High School Wednesday night.

With the win, Wadsworth remains undefeated in the Suburban League at 11-0.

Twinsburg scored the first basket of the game on a jumper by Jasmine Bishop.

Then Lady Grizzlies took control of the game, scoring 13 straight points to close out the first quarter. Wadsworth scored the first basket of the second quarter to have a 15-2 lead.

For the remainder of the first half, Wadsworth only scored 5 points, allowing the Tigers to get back into the game. At the end of the second quarter, Wadsworth’s lead was down to 20-13.

In the second half, Wadsworth and Twinsburg played on ‘an even-steven basis’. Every time the Lady Grizzlies took a double-digit lead, Twinsburg would battle back.

Wadsworth senior forward Jodi Johnson had a big second half to keep the Lady Grizzlies in the lead. Jodi scored 18 of her 24 points in the third and fourth quarters.

The only other Wadsworth player in double figures was sophomore post player Peyton Banks who had 10 points.

Bishop was the leading scorer for Twinsburg with 13 points.

The next action for the Lady Grizzlies will be on Saturday afternoon against Brecksville-Broadview Heights. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday night at 7:30 but was moved to 2:30 in the afternoon.

Saturday will be Senior Day for the Lady Grizzlies. Senior players Jodi Johnson, Jenna Johnson and Laurel Palitto will be honored before the game.
