After months of build-up, the “Minerva Monster” film is finally roaring onto DVD, Blu-Ray and the Internet streaming site Vimeo. The film debuts May 16 at the Ohio Bigfoot Conference at Salt Fork State Park.
On June 6, the Minerva Area Chamber of Commerce will host a release party of the film in downtown Minerva as part of Minerva Monster Day. Free screenings of the film will be seen at the historic Roxy Theatre at 12:30 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.. Vendors and speakers will also be at the show.
“In August of 1978, a small town in eastern Ohio was thrust into the spotlight when a local family sighted a ‘monster’ in the woods behind their home. Over subsequent evenings they were repeatedly visited by the creature culminating in a late-night encounter that ended in local police being called in. The story blasted onto the front pages of newspapers across the state and into the consciousness of a nation,” said Seth Breedlove in a news release, the film’s director.
“Minerva Monster” is produced by Jesse Morgan and Alan Megargle with an original score by composer Brandon Dalo. All four are northeast Ohio natives. “Minerva Monster” is the first in a series of documentaries called Small Town Monsters.
Currently, Small Town Monsters is being scouted for development as a series by two major TV production houses. “Our goal is to get it on TV to be a show. Our big plan is to get it to the New York TV Festival where every major network is,” Breedlove explained. “But no matter what, we’ll still produce documentaries.”
At June 25, they’ll host a presentation at Wadsworth’s library downtown from 6-8 p.m.
Small Town Monsters productions is already looking ahead to filming a case in Whitehall, NY.
