January is Human Trafficking Prevention Month, and the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission is using the moment to shine a light on a crime that often hides in plain sight.

Working alongside Mike DeWine and other state agencies, the Ohio Turnpike is focused on raising awareness and helping the public recognize the signs of human trafficking, a form of modern slavery that affects every state, including Ohio.

According to DataOhio, about 2,380 trafficking survivors have been identified statewide since 2021, including 201 in Cuyahoga County.

As part of its efforts, the Ohio Turnpike is displaying educational posters year-round at all 14 service plazas along the 241-mile toll road, encouraging travelers to stay alert and speak up.

Officials say awareness is one of the most powerful tools in stopping trafficking, and everyone has a role to play.
