New data from the American Red Cross shows more than 3,000 volunteers support the organization across Northern Ohio, representing several generations working together to serve the community.

According to the Red Cross, Gen Z is now the largest and fastest-growing group of volunteers, making up about 37% of the region’s volunteer base. Much of that growth is tied to student-led Red Cross clubs at high schools and colleges, with more than 20 clubs currently active in Northern Ohio.

Other generations continue to play an important role as well. Baby Boomers account for about 21% of volunteers, followed by Millennials at 18% and Gen X at 8%. Members of the Silent Generation represent about 1%, often bringing decades of service to the organization.

The Red Cross is highlighting the contributions of volunteers during March, which is recognized as Red Cross Month, and encouraging people of all ages to get involved by volunteering, donating blood, or supporting the organization’s mission.
