WHS boys senior track team SLIDERThe Wadsworth boys track team had a field day at the Div. I district meet at Nordonia High School this past Friday.

Wadsworth finished in first place at the district meet with 91 points, six points ahead of Stow. Nordonia finished in third place with 84 points. 14 schools competed in the district meet.

More importantly for the Grizzlies, they qualified 10 individuals for the regional meet at Austintown-Fitch High School that begins on Wednesday.

Among those qualifying for the regional meet are Nate Bergen (shot put and discus), Justin Palitto (pole vault), Danny Malkowski (pole vault), Matt Blamble (100, 200, 4 x 400 relay), Matt Beidler (800, 4 x 400), Alex Seme (shot put), Gabe Szalay (1,600), Ben Baier (110 hurdles), Max Back (4 x 400) and Tyson Heideman (4 x 400).

The event that put the Grizzlies over the top was the shot put, where Bergen and Seme finished one-two, giving Wadsworth 18 points from one event. Bergen won the shot put with a toss of 52 feet, 11 and three-quarter inches. He beat Seme by more than five feet.

Blamble finished second in the 100 and 200. Wadsworth’s 4 x 400 relay team finished in third.

The Wadsworth girls track team finished ninth in the district meet. Three members of the track team qualified for the regional meet. They are freshman Tianna McCormack (high jump), Katherine Bouscher (pole vault) and Lindsey Leatherman (3,200).
