Wadsworth Grizzly pawIf you love pitching, the place to be on Tuesday was at the Wadsworth High School Athletic fields. Nick Bebout for the baseball team and Kim Crookston for the softball team turned in stellar performances as both varsity teams came away with victories.

First to baseball as Bebout pitched a three-hit shutout and hit a two-out, two-run homer as Wadsworth shutout Green 3-0 in a Suburban League game. At the halfway point of the Suburban League season, the Grizzlies are 7-0. Overall, Wadsworth is 10-0.

The Grizzlies scored all their runs in the second inning and let Bebout’s pitching do the rest. “Nick was dialed in” said Wadsworth head baseball coach Greg Pickard. “He threw 70 pitches in just seven innings. That’s pretty impressive. He was able to keep the opposition off balance with off-speed pitches and his change-up, and he trusts his defense”.

Just as impressive was the home run Bebout hit through a 35-mile an hour wind. “We’ve known for some time that Nick has the fastest bat speed on the team. If he gets himself in good hitters’ count, he can unleash it”. said Pickard.

Next door to the baseball field is the softball field where the Lady Grizzlies beat Revere 4-1 in a Suburban League game.

Kim Crookston allowed one unearned run and gave up only one hit in getting the complete game win. “Kim looked focused in warm-ups and she carried it into the game” said Wadsworth head softball coach Michelle DeAngelis.

A moment of truth for the Lady Grizzlies came in the top of the seventh. Back-to-back errors put runners on the corners with one out. But, Wadsworth didn’t crumble. Crookston got the next two batters and the Lady Grizzlies got the win to improve their overall record to 9-4.

“We’ve talked all season about being mentally tough the entire game. Even after those errors, we were cheering in the dugout, trying to pick each other up and that’s exactly what we did” said DeAngelis.
