Students in the Wadsworth School District went ‘above and beyond’ in helping those less fortunate in our community this holiday season.
The annual food drive by Wadsworth students resulted in the collection of 34,000 foot items for the Wadsworth branch of the Salvation Army. That number set a new record for food items collected by the schools.
Students at Wadsworth High School collected the most foot items at just over 10,000. Students at CIS collected nearly 7,600 and Franklin Elementary students came in third with nearly 4,400 food items. Those donations from Franklin came from just 261 students! That averages out to nearly 14 food items per student, the highest percentge of any Wadsworth School District building.
Last year, the schools collected 18,000 food items. The biggest increase this year was at the High School where just 1,700 food items were collected during the last holiday season.
Lieutenant Mark Baggs of the Wadsworth Salvation Army said “we so much appreciate what the schools did for the community. To discover that they broke records this year was awesome. We thank them so much.”
“The donations show that there is lots of love and caring that comes from the Wadsworth Community” Lieutenant Baggs said.
The Salvation Army estimates that they will be able to keep their food pantry stocked until March or April that to the contrinution from the Wadsworth Schools.
