Wadsworth Grizzly pawIt was an impressive performance by the Wadsworth Volleyball team Saturday at the Magnificat Showcase Tournament. The Lady Grizzlies won the Showcase, defeating the host team in the finals 2-0 by identical set scores of 25-22.

Before getting to the championship match, Wadsworth had to defeat two other opponents.

The Lady Grizzlies were pushed in the first match by Orrville. Wadsworth lost Set number one to Orrville 23-25. But, the Lady Grizzlies rallied to win the final two sets, 25-21 and 25-20.

It was the Johnson sisters that led Wadsworth to victory against Orrville. Jodi Johnson had 16 kills at the net and Jenna Johnson had 22 digs and 13 service points in the match.

That victory put Wadsworth in the semi-finals against Dublin Coffman. The Lady Grizzlies had a tough second set but eventually won the match 2-0. (25-16 and 26-24)

Freshman Kacie Evans had a good all-around match for the Lady Grizzlies against Dublin Coffman. Evans had 7 kills, 2 service aces and 8 service points. Jenna Johnson had 10 digs.

In the championship match against Magnificat, Jodi Johnson and Evans had 10 kills each. Jenna Johnson had 16 digs and 5 service points.

Lost in the statistics was the performance of setter Sophia Chirumbole for Wadsworth. Sophia totaled 15 assists against Orrville, 10 against Dublin Coffman and 11 against Magnificat.

Wadsworth finished first in the showcase. The host Blue Streaks finished in second place while Dublin Coffman finished third.

With the three wins on Saturday, Wadsworth improves its record to 10-1 overall and 4-1 in the Suburban League.
