Wadsworth Boy with Boot statueIt’s a long-standing piece of history with a storied past. Now a well-known Wadsworth statue is being featured in Roadside America. This stunning “Boy and the Boot” photograph was taken by Tom Stugmyer and is the featured picture in the publication’s online story that tracks Boy and the Boot statues across the country.

Many say this boy brought water to wounded Civil War soldiers. Wadsworth’s statue was ceremoniously donated to the city and later melted down to support the war effort during WWII.

In 2013, the City of Wadsworth resurrected the idea of remaking the statue by using the mold of Boy and the Boot from Sandusky. And that’s now the statue on display in the heart of downtown.

There are only two dozen of these statues across the United States or Canada, and most of them can be found as a fountain centerpiece, in parks or on the lawns of courthouses.
