If you’ve ever wanted to step back in time and experience the golden age of rail travel, your chance has arrived.

The legendary Nickel Plate Road No. 765 steam locomotive is returning to northeast Ohio for the popular Steam in the Valley excursions on June 12-14 aboard the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad.

Built in 1944 by the Lima Locomotive Works, the massive steam engine once hauled freight and passengers across the Midwest. Today, it’s one of only a handful of operating mainline steam locomotives left in North America, making every appearance a special event.

Passengers can enjoy a nearly three-hour journey through the scenic Cuyahoga Valley National Park while taking in the sights, sounds, and unmistakable whistle of a true American railroad icon. This year’s excursions also feature open-air cars and special “run-by” photo opportunities that allow riders to watch and photograph the locomotive in action.

For an extra touch of nostalgia, the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society is bringing two unique passenger cars converted from former Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus cars. The restored cars offer vintage railroad charm with large viewing windows and Dutch doors designed for sightseeing.

Whether you’re a train enthusiast, history buff, photographer, or simply looking for a unique family outing, Steam in the Valley offers a chance to experience a living piece of American history.

Trains depart from Rockside Depot in Independence at 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on June 12, 13 and 14. Tickets range from $30 to $75, and passengers are encouraged to arrive 45 minutes before departure.
