It’s an extraordinary sporting event to see in person and it’s happening next week in Wadsworth. On June 12-14, there will be 20 blind/visually impaired golfers, and their coaches from all across the U.S. and Canada, traveling to compete in the 2024 Nations Cup Championship, the “Ryder Cup of Blind Golf,” at Pine Valley Golf Club (469 Reimer Road in Wadsworth). Team USA will have players in attendance representing Ohio, Georgia, Texas, Florida, Missouri and Oregon.

This is the 21st year for the American Blind Golf-Ohio event, a tournament that raises funds for the Blind Student Adaptive Technology Scholarship Fund & Wounded Warrior Project. American Blind Golf-Ohio is close to reaching a huge $500,000 donation milestone!

Following two days of competition, the “Fore” the Warrior Blind Golf charity Scramble will take place. Several Wounded Warriors will take part in the Scramble to help in the fundraising efforts.

National recording artist and Wounded Warrior Sal Gonzalez will be in attendance and perform following the Charity Scramble. Below is a breakdown of the scheduled events:

  1. June 12: Opening ceremonies at 8 AM. First day of competition beginning at 8:30 AM

  2. June 13: Final round of competition, with tee-offs beginning at 8:30 AM

  3. June 14: “Fore” the Warrior Blind Golf Scramble with tee-offs beginning at 1:45 PM. Area golfers will have the unique opportunity to play 18 holes with a blind golfer and their coach or an honored Wounded Warrior. Following the BBQ, Sal will perform around 7:30 PM

American Blind Golf-Ohio’s focus is to advance the lives of those who are dealing with the loss of sight, as well as support those dealing with injuries incurred while serving in the military.

“Our goal is to demonstrate to all that blind/visually impaired and totally blind individuals can indeed play competitive amateur golf with the assistance of a coach,” said Mark Arnold, a visually impaired golfer, Wadsworth resident and co-director of American Blind Golf-Ohio. “We also want to raise awareness about those who have been injured in service to our Nation.”

ABOUT AMERICAN BLIND GOLF-OHIO: Since 2003, Wadsworth has hosted a Blind Golf Tournament to create awareness and raise funds for sight-related charities and veteran initiatives. They have proudly donated more than $425,000 in this pursuit. The official American Blind Golf motto is: “through the great game of golf, we strive to Motivate, Inspire and Serve all those who deal with the loss of sight!”
