Wadsworth Community Radio

rallyIt was a cold and damp Sunday afternoon in Downtown Wadsworth, but did not dampen the spirit of hundreds of fans that turned out to welcome the Lady Grizzlies basketball team back home.

The team returned to Wadsworth carrying the gold Division One State Championship Trophy. Saturday night, the Lady Grizzlies beat Mason High School 60-51 to win the state title.

The yellow school bus carrying the team was escorted into town along State Route 57 by the Wadsworth Safety Forces. The team walked down the center sidewalk at the Gazebo surrounded by cheering fans. Then, 18 team members and the coaching staff climbed the Gazebo steps for a short ceremony.

After Wadsworth High School Principal Steve Moore welcomed the team back home, Head Coach Andrew Booth joked that the lights in town would be turned back on because so many Wadsworthians were in Columbus.

Coach Booth says the way the girls play is a reflection of their parents and the community.

Senior Jodi Johnson thanked the fans for welcoming them back home and thanked them for their support.
