If you get Medicaid in Summit County, keep an eye on your mailbox.
The Ohio Department of Medicaid is sending letters to some adults enrolled in Medicaid expansion about new requirements that are set to begin January 1, 2027.
Under the new rules, some adults ages 19 to 64 will need to complete at least 80 hours a month of approved activities. That can include working, going to school, job training, volunteering, caregiving or an internship.
But county officials say the new requirement will not apply to everyone.
There are several possible exceptions, including some parents and caregivers, people with certain health conditions, pregnant or postpartum residents, some veterans, people enrolled in Medicare and others.
Some recipients may also have to renew their Medicaid coverage every six months instead of once a year.
The big message from Summit County: don’t ignore the letter.
Getting one does not mean your coverage is changing right away, but officials say recipients should read all Medicaid notices, make sure their address is up to date and respond to any requests for information by the deadline listed.
Summit County says it is still waiting on final guidance from the state about exactly how the new requirements will be carried out.
