FireworksDowntown Wadsworth will be the home for the annual Independence Day fireworks display, which takes place at dusk Friday night (around 9:30 p.m.)

This is the second year that Wadsworth residents are being invited to come downtown to view the fireworks which will be shot off from Woodlawn Cemetery. For years, the fireworks display called Memorial Park home.  Jack Ollom, with Downtown Wadsworth Inc., said there were a few reasons why they had to change locations to Woodlawn Cemetery.

“The tree canopy has gotten too large (at Memorial Park) and the second reason is the football field is rubberized and you get attached to the padding and it comes with you. It isn’t pleasant to be on.”

If you’re coming to see the display, you should  bring a lawn chair or blanket to view the fireworks and get ready for a party on the square in Downtown Wadsworth.

The Independence Day celebration will kick off at 6:30 p.m. Friday with a concert by the Wadsworth Community Band on the lawn in front of Central Intermediate School.

In case of rain, the concert will be moved inside the school. By 7 p.m. or so, traffic through Downtown Wadsworth will be stopped by police and re-routed around the square.

For those coming to watch the fireworks, a number of downtown businesses will be open and food trucks will be parked on the streets. Downtown Wadsworth Incorporated is once again hosting the fireworks display.
