While a free day off from work and lots fireworks displays may be the major highlights of July 4 weekend, there’s one thing lots of us look forward to each holiday – the food.
According to a new poll, hamburgers are the top July 4 food for 43-percent of Americans. Potato salad is the top side dish at (61-percent), followed by corn on the cob (60-percent) and baked beans (51-percent).
And of course let’s not forget the chips. What kind of barbecue would it be without chips? Fifty-percent of Americans choose Frito-Lay/Lay’s as the chip brand most associated with the Fourth of July, followed by KC Masterpiece, Kettle Chips and Doritos in a three way tie with 11-percent each.
And while holiday traditions are important to us, with 34-percent of people buying food items just for that reason, cheap is a bit more important to people. In fact, 35-percent of respondents say when shopping they’re looking to get the most amount of food for the lowest cost.
And it seems whether you are dieting or trying to stay healthy, that all goes out the window on July 4. An overwhelming 74-percent of health conscious Americans saying they consider July 4 a “cheat” day. Amen to that!
