Akron Children's Museum1Just as the cold weather sets in, the perfect place for you to bring your little ones for some indoor fun, creativity, and activity this winter is coming.

“We are thrilled to announce the opening of the Akron Children’s Museum Pop-Up Site at Lock 3. We opened a small scale children’s museum in collaboration with Summit County Historical Society, Lock 3, and the American Toy Marble Museum on Nov. 23,” explained Katie, a volunteer mom on the committee to bring a museum to Akron.

Kids will enjoy 3,000 square feet of exhibit space including an art space, marble area, a kitchen and mini grocery store experience, a fitness and movement space, infant area, and more! The Museum will house some of the interactive exhibits kids have grown to love at local events like our life-size Lite Brite and our popular Jumbo Blocks.

“We will also be unveiling some exciting new exhibits that you’ll just have to come see and experience!”

Admission is only $3 per person (infants 12 months and under are free), and 12-visit passes are available for $30. The Museum will remain open through February 15, 2016.

Museum hours are:

Monday and Tuesday: Closed
Wednesday through Saturday: 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Sunday: 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

*Closed Sunday, Dec. 6 for the Museum’s Hands-On Holidays family fundraiser.

Will You help make the
Pop-Up Site a success?

Remember, we are still a small group of passionate parents and young professionals trying to bring a fully established children’s museum to Akron. We could definitely use your help! Here are two ways you can help now:

1. Be a volunteer “Play Pal” at the Pop-Up Site
Lend a hand, be an extra set of eyes, help tidy up. The heavy duty jobs will be handled by our staff, so would you consider signing up for a 2-hour time slot over the next couple months? In exchange, you’ll receive tickets to the Museum so you can bring your own kids or pass them along to someone else! Click here to volunteer as a volunteer Play Pal.

2. Help grow the exhibits
We have done lots of research and we know what kids (and parents) are looking for in a children’s museum. Help us make the most of our space and even add to the exhibits we already have by donating an exhibit item. Here’s a list of what we would like to purchase and what we need to do it. 2nd Annual Hands-On Holidays
family fundraiser!
Bring the family to our second annual family fundraiser Hands-On Holidays: Expedition Frosty!

Kids of all ages will travel through a maze of interactive exhibits, games, and activities. For each station completed, they will earn an official stamp in their North Pole Passport.

Frosty the Snowman will be there too! Kids can take photos with the lovable snowman, create a snowman lantern craft project, and explore and create with many of our hands-on museum exhibits.

Upon admission, each child will receive a bottle of water, a snack, and a North Pole Passport. Hot cocoa and cookies will be available for purchase. General admission tickets are necessary for anyone over 2 years of age, including adults.

The event will be on Sunday, December 6 from 1-5pm at St. Thomas Hall, 555 South Cleveland-Massillon Rd., Fairlawn, Ohio 44333. Click here for more information and to purchase tickets.
