turkey-dinnerIn one week most of us will be sitting around the table in front of more food than we can possibly consume, and apparently that’s the point of Thanksgiving. In fact, the more leftover food, the better, since, according to a new Harris Poll, 79% of adults say the best part about hosting a Thanksgiving feast is having a fridge full of leftovers.

As for the meal itself, it’s not much of a surprise to find out the turkey is the thing people look forward to the most on Thanksgiving (39%), followed by stuffing (23%), pumpkin pie (12%), mashed potatoes (9%), sweet potatoes (6%) and cranberry sauce (3%).

But when it comes to the bird, people are getting a little less traditional than the typical roasted turkey. In fact, 53% of Americans say they are interested in grilling their turkey, while 49% have considered deep frying their bird, with 10% having already done it. And then there are those who want to go completely out of the box, with 28% interested in trying a turducken (a chicken inside a duck inside a turkey), while 25% plan to skip the turkey altogether.

But one thing’s for sure, Thanksgiving wouldn’t be the same for most people if they weren’t enjoying a home-cooked meal. The survey found that 71% of people disagree with the notion of going out to a restaurant for Thanksgiving.

In a related survey – Huffington Post readers have voted pumpkin pie the overall favorite for Thanksgiving. Pumpkin pie received 39% of the vote, followed by apple pie (26%), pecan pie (20%), other (9%) and chocolate pecan pie (6%)
