The Medina County Board of Developmental Disabilities (MCBDD) is honored to announce the appointment of Board Member Adina Kolar, the first person with a developmental difference to serve as a Board Member. This milestone marks a historic moment in the organization’s commitment to inclusion and representation for all individuals.
Kolar, a long-time advocate for people with disabilities in Medina County and a recent graduate of the MCBDD’s Leadership Academy, will bring a unique perspective to the board, advocating for the inclusion and empowerment of people with developmental differences. As a member of the board, Miss Kolar will help shape the MCBDD’s mission and goals while ensuring the voices of individuals with developmental differences are heard and valued in the decision-making process.
“We are beyond thrilled to welcome Miss Kolar to our Board,” said Stacey Maleckar, MCBDD Superintendent. “This is an exciting time, as this appointment is a significant step toward fostering a more inclusive community where people of all backgrounds and abilities can contribute and thrive. Miss Kolar’s perspective and advocacy will be invaluable as we continue our work toward creating a local system that meets the needs of the people and families we serve and support. I am eager to see the positive impact she will make in our community.”
Kolar was appreciative and grateful for the opportunity. “When I needed help, the County Board helped me. When the County Board needs help, I want to help them. Navigating life with a disability is difficult. With God’s help to guide me in each step on my way to becoming a better leader for the disability community, I will make sure all voices matter!”
Kolar’s appointment to the MCBDD Board by the Medina County Commissioners, reflects a broader societal shift in recognizing people with developmental disabilities should be valued not just for their potential, but also for their leadership capabilities. The appointment of Miss Kolar also underscores MCBDD’s ongoing commitment to ensuring accessibility in all areas of its operations, from governance to program development. By breaking barriers, the MCBDD hopes to inspire other organizations to follow suit and consider the contributions that individuals with disabilities bring to the table.
