032Finally! The Wadsworth Dog Park located at Valley View Park is open for use.

Wadsworth Mayor Robin Laubaugh and Dog Park Organizer Roni Leatherman delivered some opening remarks before the ribbon was cut and the newly installed gates swung open for dog owners and their furry friends

When you enter the Dog Park, the one-acre fenced area to the right is for small dogs (weighing 30 pounds or less). The fenced in area to the left is for larger dogs and encompasses nearly 2.5 acres of land. Both areas have benches for dog owners to sit and watch their four-legged friends run and play. Plus, there’s plenty of shade for both owners and pets to relax. If you get thirsty, there are water fountains for both dogs and humans.

“It’s a wonderful collaboration between the city of Wadsworth and a non-profit organization headed up by Roni Leatherman. She did a terrific job in bringing people together”, said the Mayor.

“We had been talking about a dog park for a number of years” said Mayor Laubaugh. “But we didn’t have a good spot that we were aware of. The two biggest issues were available land and parking. But everything has worked out great here”.

Leatherman called the dog park “amazing. We’ve needed this for sometime. It will be utilized by the community. We have a great turnout today for the opening. I’m so proud of my community, the Mayor and Harry Stark who made this all come together”.

Doctor Dane Arends of Wadsworth Veterinary Hospital, who helped to ‘kick-start’ the project, said there are so many who helped make the dog park a reality. “Thanks go to the city, to Lowe’s, to Nelsons, to the Pet Boutique II to the folks who bought memorial bricks. This is an amazing place. It’s been needed for sometime. I think this place will be a feather in Wadsworth’s hat”.

If you have a dog, be sure to stop by. Even if you don’t have a dog, be sure to stop by.
