A woman was recently hospitalized after two men threw an unknown substance on her legs, severely burning her, Sunday while she was walking alone in Silver Creek Metro Park in Norton.
The attack happened on July 28 while the woman was walking on the Chippewa Trail in the park. She said two men quickly approached her near the street/red barn and threw an unknown substance on her legs which caused severe burns after combusting.
The woman, who is in her 30s, was treated for her injuries at a local hospital.
Summit Metro Parks rangers are working closely with the Norton Police Department on this case. The suspects have been described as white males, one with curly hair, and in their late teens or early 20s. Anyone with information about this incident should contact Summit Metro Parks Ranger Lt. “We are keeping the victim in our thoughts as she heals from this traumatic incident. This type of attack is incredibly uncommon within Summit Metro Parks,” Lindsay Smith, Summit Metro Parks chief of marketing and communications, said in a news release. “Park visitors are encouraged to remain aware of surroundings and follow the guidance of “see something, say something” when in the parks.”
Patrols have been increased in Silver Creek Metro Park since the incident.
