football and football fieldIt was the first time on football field for Wadsworth Senior Alex Jones and he came through for the Grizzlies in a big way.

Jones scored two touchdowns on pass receptions and one on the ground as the Grizzlies defeated the Cuyahoga Falls Black Tigers 35-0 in a game played at Art Wright Stadium Friday night.

Alex suffered a shoulder injury in pre-season on a non-contact play. Doctors thought that Alex might miss the entire football season.

Fortunately for the Grizzlies, he’s back in the lineup.

On the second play of the game, Grizzly Quarterback Joey Baughman found Jones over the middle on a crossing route. Jones caught the ball and headed up the sidelines. When the play was over, Jones covered 69 yards for the touchdown and gave Wadsworth the lead that they would never give up.

Later in the first quarter, with the ball on the Falls 16 yard line, Baughman dropped back to pass. The Black Tiger rush flushed Baughman out of the pocket. Just before he crossed the line of scrimmage, Baughman fired a pass to Jones near the back of the end zone. Alex caught it and kept his feet inbounds for a touchdown and the Grizzlies had a 14-0 lead.

Jones scored his third touchdown of the game in the third quarter on a six-yard run.

In the game, Alex caught 3 passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns. On the ground, Jones carried the ball 8 times for 36 yards and one touchdown.

Wadsworth head coach Justin Todd said ‘there’s a different feeling on the team when he’s (Alex) is around. He’s that type of kid. The game was great for him because three months ago the doctors thought he might be able to wrestle. The fact that he’s playing with his brothers is special’.
